South Yard & Friends Vol. 2
RELEASE DATE: 24th DEC 2020

Following on from last year’s well-received South Yard and Friends compilation, Spanish jungle and reggae label South Yard has curated another all-star collection of unheard gems for its 2020 sequel, arriving on Christmas Eve as a sixteen-track treat for fans.

Founded by Kursiva, Karlixx, Mooncat, Dubtime & Laura early in 2015, the independent label has been steadily rising in stature within the international jungle and reggae scenes, welcoming iconic lyricists including Daddy Freddy, Tenor Youthman and Blackout JA
into its ranks on recent releases. Like its predecessor, South Yard and Friends Vol. 2 showcases a global cohort of talent, with Belgrade-based producer Rahmanee, mexican junglist Isaac Maya and French rising stars Vici, Speaker Louis and ScalapDon among those to make appearances over the course of the project.

One of the LP’s more high-profile contributions comes from Italian DJ/producer and Numa Crew member T-Kay, who returns to the label with a reinterpretation of his 2018 banger “Soundbwoy”, originally released via Serial Killaz’ label. Substituting out the song’s hollow creaks and dogged ride cymbals for abrasive synth stabs and rattling subs, he radically transforms the track into an entirely different beast, expertly adapting it for the South
Yard sound. Meanwhile, Ipswich favourite Conrad Subs is back following his summer EP Robust Funk with the fresh production “Too Cold”, a gravelly, pared-back stepper with a bassline guaranteed to bulldoze its way through any dancefloor.

Other highlights come in the form of Fokus’s winding offering “The Takeover”, which combines arpeggiated synth flourishes with reverb-soaked guitars, dub sirens and airy pads to make for breezy results; BadWeed’s bustling, breaks-driven belter “Massive 2020”; and State of Disorder’s pattering, atmospheric cut “Listen”, with bellowing subs underscoring the track every step of the way to make for intense results.

With plenty to choose from, and a vast sonic range of styles throughout, South Yard and Friends Vol. 2 makes for a welcome seasonal surprise, as well as the perfect reintroduction to one of Europe’s most exciting new drum and bass strongholds.
